Inside the machine

Look inside a solar inverter duty transformer.

01 · Cooling

Radiators come off first.

Pressed-steel radiator banks carry heat out of the oil. Trafo Power manufactures radiators, fin walls and tanks in-house under its Mechanica Elec trademark.

02 · Cover assembly

Lift the cover.

Bushings, tap-changer drive and conservator ride on the cover. Removing it exposes both core-coil assemblies inside the tank.

03 · Untanking

The active part is craned out.

Both core-coil assemblies — one for each inverter section — are lifted clear of the tank on their common frame. The inverter stays on the tank.

04 · Core & windings

Separate the cores and coils.

With the top yokes removed, the low- and high-voltage windings and their insulation slide off the limbs of both cores.

Reassembly

And back together.

Trafo Power's designs are type tested up to 20 MVA, 33/11 kV — temperature-rise, impulse and short-circuit tests at CPRI (Bhopal) or ERDA (Vadodara).
