Wind energy
Wind projects: engineering review first.
Wind step-up transformers face variable loading, converter harmonics and harsh environments. Our engineers review every wind enquiry before we quote.

Wind transformers are engineered for each project. Share your turbine, converter and site data, and we will confirm the scope and ratings we can offer.
Why wind is different
Output follows the wind, so transformers cycle constantly between light load and full output. Power converters introduce harmonics and fast transients, and turbine-mounted units experience vibration.
Coastal and offshore sites add humidity, salt and condensation; tower and nacelle installations limit size, weight and the choice of insulating liquid.
Standards to plan for
IEC 60076-16 sets requirements for transformers in wind turbine applications in addition to the general IEC 60076 series. Grid-operator requirements at the point of connection also apply.
